Ph.D. University of Kansas, Human Development and Family Life 1985The purpose of this study was to evaluate procedures for teaching members of a student cooperative to run meetings with little or no assistance from the Experimenter. Experiment 1 evaluated the performance of seven meeting chairpersons with and without training and coaching by the Experimenter. Chairpersons completed more of their assigned tasks when the Experimenter was coaching than when he was not. Meeting efficiency and member satisfaction were both better when the Experimenter was coaching. Experiment 2 studied the effects of a maintenance package on chairperson performance in the absence of training and coaching by the Experimenter. The maintenance package included a training manual, a prompting checklist, and performance reviews by another member of the cooperative. Chairperson performance, meeting efficiency, and member satisfaction were all consistently better when the maintenance package was used. Experiment 1 highlights the need for experimenters to analyze their own roles in the interventions they design. Experiment 2 suggests one method for reducing the involvement of the experimenter while maintaining the effectiveness of an intervention

Perspectives on resilience in cloud computing: Review and trends

    Get PDF
The development of resilient distributed systems is seen as essential to maintaining stable business and state-run processes due to information systems now underpinning most aspects of society. Cloud computing is now one of the most pervasive usage paradigms and due its novelty, research surrounding its resilience is largely lacking and often varied in terms of developed solutions. Therefore this paper provides an up-to-date review of resilience work in cloud computing. This includes methods of measuring and evaluating resilience, solutions for enabling resilience and alternative architectures developed with a focus upon ensuring resilience from the ground up. Firstly, resilience is defined within the context of cloud computing in order to categorise the work appropriately. © 2017 IEEE

    Diffusion Tensor MR Imaging

This unit reviews the physical principles and methodologies involved in diffusion‐weighted imaging (DWI) and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) for clinical applications. Diffusion‐sensitive MRI noninvasively provides insight into processes and microscopic cellular structures that alter molecular water mobility. Formalism to extend the Bloch equation to include effects of random translational motion through field gradients is reviewed. Definition of key acquisition parameters is also reviewed along with common methods to calculate and display tissue diffusion properties in a variety of image formats. Characterization of potential directional‐dependence of diffusion (i.e., anisotropy), such as that which exists in white matter, requires DTI. Diffusion tensor formalism and measurement techniques then reduce the diffusion tensor into standard anisotropy quantities that are summarized along with commonly used methods to depict directional information in an image format.Peer Reviewedhttps://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/145343/1/cpmib0801.pd
